San Marcos High School is one of the few programs to have former student athletes capture NCAA Double titles.  Ann Lebedeff (San Diego State) and Brian Wilson (University of Illinois) can boast they were NCAA Champions and former Knights.  See below the talented group of student athletes that are currently competing for San Marcos High School.

THE 2008 TEAM

Kevin Camballa - Junior

Kevin is the unquestioned number 1 player for the Fighting Knights. He is a highly ranked junior in the USTA Southern California tennis rankings.  He was selected to the All-Valley League First Team and named the Valley League Player of the Year in 2007. He has been a varsity performer since his freshmen year. Kevin is only one of eight San Diego CIF players to be selected  to play in the prestigious 2008 Ojai Tennis Tournament.

Fen Fei Zheng - Senior 

Fen provides the Knights with depth at singles and doubles. He is the most versatile of the Knight  tennis players. He possesses great hand-eye coordination and has only been playing the sport for two years. A quick learner Fen has become one of the better player s in the tough Valley League.

Tony Pansa - Junior

Tony is perhaps the best athlete on the team. A left hander, Tony creates difficulty for his opponents. He possesses cat quick reflexes and deadly volleys. Along with his partner, Jesse Hanchett, they form one of the top doubles teams in the Valley League and North County Conference.

Jesse Hanchett - Junior 

Jesse, forms the other half of the dangerous doubles team of Hanchett and Pansa. Hanchett possesses a very reliable serve and steady game. The red head is a student of the game and is always seeking to improve. He is a valuable member of our team and perhaps the most steady.

Ben Ramirez…Junior 

Another of the juniors, Ben Ramirez plays percentage  tennis as well as anyone in the Valley League. He possesses the ability to lob his opponents to  a level of frustration not often seen in San Diego high school tennis. Deceptively quick, Ben has developed into a fine doubles player.

Jeff Pansa - Sophmore

Jeff is in his second year on the varsity. The Rookie of the Year in 2007, he has continued to make great strides in achieving his goal of becoming a great player. Jeff has the ability to play both singles and doubles. He possesses a classic service motion and beautiful  groundstrokes. Jeff is a player to watch.

Brent Chick - Sophmore

Brent  is a newcomer to the world of varsity tennis. He began the season on the JV and quickly established himself as a varsity caliber player by defeating a great number of varsity team members in challenge matches. Possessing an all-around game Brent can play both singles and doubles and has added valuable depth to the Knight tennis team.

Scott Rassatt - Sophmore

Another of the talented sophomores, Scott worked his way from the JV to the varsity in a short time. A talented athlete and fierce competitor Scott has become an established doubles player teaming with Ben Ramirez to form one of the top doubles teams in the Valley League

Jordan Bagheri - Freshman

Only a freshman, Jordan, has demonstrated he is one of the top newcomers to the Valley League. He has teamed with Fen Fei  Zheng to  form another top flight doubles team in our league. Possessing a great backhand and steady all around game Bagheri has porvided the Knights with the valuable depth that has allowed our team to  fashion a winning record and make a run at the team playoffs.

Andrew Monsalud - Junior

Andrew, is in his second year of varsity tennis. A hard hitter, Monsalud plays doubles for the Knights.

Wayne Sandstoe - Senior

Wayne is in his second year of varsity competition for the Knight tennis team. An improved game has allowed Wayne to play both singles and doubles.

Phillip West - Senior

Phillip is in his first year of competitive high school tennis. Phillip, has made rapid improvement as he learns and enjoys the game of a lifetime.

Justin Cox - Senior

Justin Cox, is in his first year of varsity tennis after three years with the JV. A steady player, Justin relies on his opponents errors to  come away with a victory.
