Coach Bruce Storrs
Coach Storrs is the longest serving coach on
the San Marcos
High School
staff as well as the longest serving teacher with 35 years in the
San Marcos Unified
School District. After playing football
at San Diego
State for the legendary Don Coryell,
Coach Storrs was hired in 1973 as a football assistant coach. He was
handed the job of Varsity Boys tennis coach as well. During his
first go around as tennis coach from 1973 to 1994 the coach won
three league titles (1983, 1986, 1987) being named Coach of the Year
in 1983. Coach Storrs has guided his teams to 14 CIF team playoff
appearances. The 1987 team advanced as far as the CIF semi-finals
before falling to the powerful La Jolla High School Vikings.
In 2003 Coach Storrs returned to the tennis
wars and his teams have qualified the past four seasons for team
CIF. The Knights have 295 wins with Coach Storrs directing the
program. During his tenure many players have excelled and gone on to
win singles and doubles titles. Several have played successfully at
the collegiate level.
